GRIDS, STRINGS AND COLOURED FEELINGS
In my fourth and fifth year of the Painting Course, I was very influenced by Colour Field Painting and Minimalism. Also the work of Agnes Martin (who never defined herself as minimalist) struck me to the point of inspiring a whole series of abstract paintings where I explored mainly the compositional structure of the grid, so much used since the beggining of the twentieth century.
The series started with works on paper, painted with several layers of pastel crayons, where the grid was thinly carved (only in some areas), and evolved to oil paintings with an all-over grid in relief. With time, scale changed and I ended up doing paintings with acrylic and enamel, with an object-like appearance (see also my series Colour and Light, The Salt From My Mouth and Strings On Paper. They have evolved from these first works).
